Notice to fish harvesters (Reconciliation of quotas) - 2017-03-20

Gaspé – March 20, 2017

Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Quebec Region announces the reconciliation of quotas in the areas 12 and 13 whelk fishery due to overruns of the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) incurred during the 2016 season.

As of March 10, 2017, whelk landings in Area 12 for the 2016 season totaled 47.282 t, while the TAC was 46 t. The landings recorded in this zone therefore exceed the quota of 1.282 t for the year 2016. Thus, the initial reconciled TAC of zone 12 for the 2017 season will be 44.718 t.

Similarly, as of March 10, 2017, whelk landings in Area 13 for the 2016 season totaled 88.579 t, while the TAC was 82 t. The landings recorded in this zone therefore exceed the quota of 6.579 t for the year 2016. Thus, the initial reconciled TAC of area 13 for the 2017 season will be 75.421 t.

The other management measures contained in the 2016-2017 Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) remain unchanged.
