Opening of the 4RST Greenland Halibut competitive fishery Gaspe fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 metres

Gaspe – May 18, 2017

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Québec Region announces the opening of the 4RST Greenland halibut fishery for the Gaspé Peninsula fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m under a competitive regime.

The quota allocated to the competitive fishery of this group is 166.253 t. Given the number of fishers who have indicated their interest in participating in this fishery, an initial individual maximum catch limit (IMCL) of 8177 kg was established.

As announced in the Notice to Fish Harvesters issued on June 13, 2016, July 12, 2016 and May 4, 2017, the IMCL will be reduced on an individual basis by the equivalent of the IMLC overruns occurred during the 2016-2017 season, on a one-to-one basis.

Pursuant to the recommendations of the two organizations representing fishers of this group, the fishery will be open from May 23, 4:30 AM (EDT) to June 8, 6:00 PM.

Other management measures are specified in the Notice to fish harvesters and in the Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) 2017-2019 issued on May 12, 2017.
