4RST Greenland halibut FISHERY - fixed gear fleet based on the

lower north shore under INDIVIDUAL Transferable QuotaS Regime

2017 season

OBJECT: Announcement of the opening of the Greenland Halibut fishery for the ITQ fixed gear fleet based on the Lower North Shore

Sept-Iles, May 19th, 2017- Fisheries and Oceans Canada announces the opening of the Greenland Halibut fishery for the fixed gear fleet of less than 19,81 m under individual transferable quotas regime of the Lower North Shore.

Following discussions with the concerned Lower North Shore fish harvester associations, the fishery will be opened from May 22nd to September 30th 2017.

The quota allocated to the Lower North Shore fleet under individual transferable quota regime is of 353.0 t. This amount doesn’t take into consideration quota reconciliation and carry forward. As a pilot project, the carry forward of uncaught quotas from last year will be authorized for 2017-2018 for up to 15% of the original quota. In that respect, individual transferable quotas will be adjusted during the course of the season.

Other management measures are presented in the 2017-2019 Conservation Harvesting Plan for Greenland Halibut approved May 12th 2017.
