OPENING OF THE ATLANTIC HALIBUT 4RST FISHERY GASPÉ FIXED GEAR FLEET OF LESS THAN 13.71 m TURBOT FISHERS UNDER AN ITQ GROUP AND ASSOCIATION DES MORUTIERS TRADITIONNELS GROUP
Gaspé – May 29, 2017
Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the Atlantic Halibut fishery for the Gaspé fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m under Individual transferable quotas (ITQ or I(t)Q) regime.
According to the permanent sharing agreement of the Gaspé fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m, the initial allocation granted to the Turbot fishers under an ITQ group is 72.085 t while the one granted to the Association des morutiers traditionnels (AMTG) group is 14.719 t.
The fishery will be authorized from May 27, 4:30 (EDT) until October 31, 2017 with a maximum of 3000 hooks, used or aboard the vessel.
Partnerships between two members of the same group are authorized. Both licence holders shall be onboard and are allowedto use 200% of authorized number of fishing gear.
Fishers are advised of the continued temporary closure of part of the 4T area, considering the excessive by-catch of cod, within the straight lines delineated by the following points:

2 48°31’00" N 62°37’00" W
3 48°23’00" N 63°08’00" W
4 48°46’00" N 64°10’00" W
5 49°02’00" N 64°10’00" W
Other management measures are grouped into the 2017-2019 4RST Atlantic halibut CHP for the Gaspé fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m approved May 26, 2017.
