Notices to Fish Harvesters
Greenland Halibut (turbot) - 4RST - Gaspe-Lower St. Lawrence - Fixed Gear less than 13,71m - Competitive
REOPENING OF THE 4RST GREENLAND HALIBUT COMPETITIVE FISHERY GASPE FIXED GEAR FLEET OF LESS THAN 13.71 METRES
Gaspe – June 21, 2017
Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Québec Region announces the reopening of the 4RST Greenland halibut fishery for the Gaspé Peninsula fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m under a competitive regime.
The residual quota allocated to the second opening period of the competitive fishery is 63 t. Given the number of fishers who have indicated their interest in participating in this fishery, an initial individual maximum catch limit (IMCL) of 5000 kg was established. The licence holders who exceed this IMCL will have their IMCL, or their individual quotas if there was a change in management regime, reduced by the equivalent of their excess for the next season.
Note that only fishers who participated in the second period and respected their IMCL will be eligible for a third period of opening, if necessary.
Pursuant to the recommendations of the two organizations representing fishers of this group, the fishery will be open from June 23, 4:30 AM (EDT) to July 10, 6:30 PM.
Other management measures are specified in the Notice to fish harvesters issued on May 4, 2017 and in the Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) 2017-2019 approved on May 12, 2017.
