Electronic logbooks –choosing an application and obtaining a key
Quebec– April 18 2018
Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec region announces the qualification of client applications for the majority of the electronic logbook project phase I fleets and the implementation of the electronic logbook (Elog) key module.
With respect to the Notice to fish harvesters published Februray 8th 2018, the Department reminds fish harvesters that in 2018 the use of the electronic logbook (Elog) is optional for the fleets listed below:
Lobster, area 22 (Magdalene Iles)
Snow crab, area 12
Estuary and Gulf shrimp, group B of areas 8-9-10-12 (Esquiman, Anticosti, Sept-Îles and Estuary)
Northern Shrimp (area 6)
Herring (gillnets), area 16
Herring, mackerel and capelin for bait purposes (gillnets), areas 15 and 16
Furthermore, the use of the Elog is mandatory for the Gaspe Lobster fleet (areas 19, 20, 21).
It is important to remember that the Elog should be mandatory for all of these fleets as of 2019 and that only client applications (software) qualified by Fisheries and Ocean Canada (DFO) can now be used.
To this effect, the Department invites the Elog project phase I fleets’ fish harvesters to visit Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s website at www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/elogs. From there, fish harvesters will be able to view the list of qualified client applications and obtain their Elog key. Note that at the present time, no client application has obtained the status of qualification for the shrimp fishery.
Fish harvesters that wish to use an Elog during the 2018 season must take the following precautions:
make sure to use a qualified application;
obtain an Elog key and copy it into your software;
hold Licence conditions allowing for the use of Elogs.
The Elog key is a string of 24 characters generated by the Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Elog key module. To transmit Elog data to the Department, fish harvesters must obtain an Elog key and store it in their client application.
For assistance in obtaining the Elog key, you may contact the client service at 1‑877‑535‑7303. If your Licence conditions don’t allow the use of Elogs, contact your area office.
