Announcement of the management measures
4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT CONSERVATION HARVESTING PLAN (CHP)FOR THE
GASPÉ FIXED GEAR FLEET OF LESS THAN 13.71 METRES
TURBOT FISHERS UNDER AN ITQ GROUP AND
ASSOCIATION DES MORUTIERS TRADITIONNELS DE LA GASPÉSIE GROUP

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the management measures into the 4RST Atlantic Halibut Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) for the Gaspé gear fleet less than 13.71 m from the Turbot fishers under an ITQ groupand the Association des morutiers traditionnels de la Gaspésie (AMTG) groupfishing in the 4RST divisions approved May 21, 2019.
According to the permanent sharing agreement of the Gaspé fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m, the initial allocation granted to the Turbot fishers under an ITQ group is 82.779 t while the one granted to the Association des morutiers traditionnels (AMTG) group is 16.903 t.
The fishery will be authorized until October 31, 2019 with a maximum of 3000 hooks, used or aboard the vessel.
Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area
On March 6, 2019, Fisheries and Oceans Canada created, jointly with the Quebec government, the Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area (MPA) in order to the ensure the conservation and protection of this marine ecosystem.

Temporary closure for Atlantic Halibut directed fishery
Licence holders are advised of the continued temporary closure of part of the 4T division, considering the excessive by-catch of cod previously observed. This area will remain closed until further notice, and is bounded by straight lines delineated by the following points:
1. 49°02’00" N 64°10’00" W
2. 48°31’00" N 62°37’00" W
3. 48°23’00" N 63°08’00" W
4. 48°46’00" N 64°10’00" W
5. 49°02’00" N 64°10’00" W
Changes have been made to the management measures to minimize the risks of interactions with North Atlantic Right Whales, as well as the requirement to report lost and retrieved gear.
