OPENING OF THE 4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT - GASPÉ FIXED GEAR FLEET OF LESS THAN 13.71 METRES - LOBSTER FISHERS GROUP (A125)
Gaspé – July 8, 2019
Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the 4RST Atlantic Halibut fishery for the licence holders of the Gaspé fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m from the Lobster fishers group.
The fishery of an allocation of 48,541t, under a competitive regime with individual maximum catch limit (IMCL), will be authorized from July 10, 4:30 AM to July 30, 11:59 PM (EDT).
Given the number of fishermen who notified their interest in participating in this fishery, an Individual maximum catch limit catch limit (IMCL) of 700 kg was established.
Only longline is authorized, with a maximum of 1500 hooks.
Fishers are advised of the continued temporary closure of part of the 4T area, considering the excessive by-catch of cod, within the straight lines delineated by the following points:

2 48°31’00" N 62°37’00" W
3 48°23’00" N 63°08’00" W
4 48°46’00" N 64°10’00" W
5 49°02’00" N 64°10’00" W
Other management measures are grouped into the 2019 4RST Atlantic Halibut Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to the Gaspe peninsula fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m licence holders of the Lobster fishers group approved June 28, 2019.
Fishers who registered for this fishery will automatically receive their Conditions of licence online from July 8 2019. To obtain their Conditions of licence, fishers must access the National Online Licensing System.
