REOPENING OF THE 4RST ATLANTIC HALIBUT GASPÉ FIXED GEAR FLEET OF LESS THAN 13.71 METRES LOBSTER FISHERS GROUP (A125)

Gaspé – August 29, 2019

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the reopening of the 4RST Atlantic Halibut fishery for the licence holders of the Gaspé fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m from the Lobster fishers group. 

The residual quota allocated to this second competitive fishing period is 15.334 t. Given the number of fishermen who notified their interest in participating in this fishery, a maximum individual catch limit (MICL) of 697 kg has been established. 

Fishing will be authorized from September 2, 2019 at 5:00 am (EDT) to September 9, 2019 at 6:30 pm (EDT). 

Only longline is authorized, with a maximum of 1500 hooks. 

Fishers are advised of the continued temporary closure of part of the 4T area, considering the excessive by-catch of cod, within the straight lines delineated by the following points: 

1 49°02’00" N 64°10’00" W 

2 48°31’00" N 62°37’00" W 

3 48°23’00" N 63°08’00" W 

4 48°46’00" N 64°10’00" W 

5 49°02’00" N 64°10’00" W 

In addition, please note that under the Quebec Region Variation Order 2019-Q-058 and the Aboriginal Communal Fishing Licences Regulations, fishing for Atlantic halibut is prohibited in groundfish subdivisions 4S1 and 4S2. 

 

Other management measures are grouped into the 2019 4RST Atlantic Halibut Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to the Gaspe peninsula fixed gear fleet of less than 13.71 m licence holders of the Lobster fishers group approved June 28, 2019.  

Fishers who registered for this fishery will automatically receive their Conditions of licence online from August,29 2019. To obtain their Conditions of licence, fishers must access the National Online Licensing System.
