Notice to fish harvesters 2015 (2015-04-28)

SNOW CRAB LICENCE HOLDERS - NORTH SHORE AREAS

FISHING GEAR SURVEILLANCE

Quebec – April 28,2015 – The Department of Fisheries and Oceans wishes to remind fish harvesters of their legal responsibilities pertaining to their fishing gear. Article 115.2 of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations‎ stipulates that no person shall leave fishing gear unattended in the water for more than 72 consecutive hours.Any license holders not complying with the regulations are subject to judicial proceedings.

Due to the lack of an agreement between fishers and fish-buyers on the North Shore, DFO has tolerated some fishers having failed to attend to their fishing gear. Since the situation continues without an agreement, DFO is now asking these fishers to remove their unattended traps from the water or render them inoperative.
